sometimes you just need validation from the outside

So I have four exams coming up at the end of October/beginning of November (nutrition, physio, micro written/practical, biochem – all from the muscle weakness & weight loss modules).  Which means 800-900 pages of notes that we must know quite solidly.  Good thing it isn’t reaching into the 1000+ category yet.

So I’ve been feeling a mildly stressed for awhile.  I went to meet my advisor yesterday, for the first time, and we discussed various topics related to medical school.  The subject of my MCAT came up, and after she reviewed my scores, she commented that I should be having no trouble at all doing well in classes right now and in the future.  That because in the two times I took the MCAT, I’ve received consistently high scores in the verbal section (a 14 and 15) – and that is apparently the most solid correlation between any part of the MCAT and how well medical students do in class, because of the sheer amount of reading we have to do.

Whether or not this is true, sometimes just hearing something like that can push me over the mental barrier and enables me to really feel like I can perform at my highest potential.  That I have a high potential.  Sometimes just hearing that is all that matters to me.

Bias set aside, and as ‘outside’ as a friend can be, I can say without a doubt that I’ve never met anyone more able to juggle so much going on in their life well as you ~ and that not only do you have an incredible potential for greatness, you’re more importantly putting in the effort necessary to reach it.

Also: the MCAT is a strange, strange beast and neither of us should ever take it again. You’ll be loving yourself later on when you realize how ridiculous an edge this year is giving you on the USMLE.
